Do the vikings have a chance against the Eagles?

The Minnesota Vikings will play the Eagles in the first round of the playoffs. The game will be at home for the vikings. Many still are not showing much love to the vikings. Giving them little to no chance to win the game.

I will say this if our defence plays as bad as they did against the NY Giants then no we don't have a chance, The defence played there worst game by far in the last regular season game. They could not stop the run or defend the pass.

I do think we can move the ball against the eagles however we will have to take more then one shot down the field. If we become a run and dink and dunk pass team the eagles will have an easy time stopping our offense.

I think the game could be tied if both teams show up. The vikings will need to have a great week of practice. That will also have to carry in to the game.

The vikings use the front door or the back door?

The Minnesota Vikings had two choices to enter the playoffs today. They could either walk in the front door with a win today or they could get in the back door if they were to loose today. If the Chicago bears lost and the Vikings lost then the Vikings would be in.

Today's opponent for the Vikings was the defending super bowl champions the New York Giants. It was a home game for the vikings and one other good thing going for the vikings is the giants don't play very well against them as of late.

The game provide to be an exciting one. As both teams went back and forth at the half the vikings were up 10-9. Early the the vikings defense was able to stop the giants offense that did not hold true the whole game however. About mid way into the 2nd quarter the giants seemed to be building the momentum. The vikings defense went soft and could not stop them most of the rest of the game.

In the send half it had seemed to be all giants as they came out and got a touchdown and now lead by a 16-10 score. The vikings then marched all the way down to 6 yard like of the giants were Jackson then tossed an interception. That lead to a field goal for the giants and at the end or three quarters of play then lead 19-10.

This putting the vikings back against the wall to control there own destiny. The vikings came out strong and marched down to get a touch down this pulled them with in 2 at 19-17. It was now or never for the defence to make a stand with the game clock ticking against the vikings. The giants took the ball and went down the field on the vikings. Two huge plays stopped there drive. This leaving the giants with a field goal try they missed.

The vikings took over and marched down the filed to put them self's in field goal range. Now it our turn to try to win the game with just 4 seconds left. Ryan Longwell would have it hit a 51 yard try. Well he did and we walked in to the playoffs with a 20-19 win.

Yes we used the front door.

Collage Hockey.

If you have been paying any attain to hockey this year you may have noticed something. That being that all three of our collages are fair well in there hockey programs.

Well UWS is off to it's best start ever at 13-1-1 and 6-0 in conferences play. There friends is the same conference St. Scholastic is not doing to bad them self's. UWS leads well the Saints are in second place.

UMD is set for a great second half. They are 9-6-4 and look to break in to the top part of the WCHA.

More on this later.

Brighter side

On the bright side for the Gophers sports teams. The basketball team is undefeated so far at 10-0. They have not played anyone good yet but hey they still have not lost.

Great start.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers got off to a great start 7-1 in there first 8 games. This is the best start for them I can remember is some time. There were ranked at there highest point 17th and you thought maybe there would be good.

They then lost there last four straight games to finish 7-5 and what great bowl game do they get to go to. The Insight bowl on just two games that are not on T.V. they are broadcast of the NFL network. All other bowl games are on ESPN or regular channels.

Way to blow that one boys.

Bulldog weekend.

what a weekend for U.M.D. sports. The football team wins it's semi final match in DII playoffs 45-7. They now play for the championship next Saturday at noon. The game will be on major networks. ESPN2 and on the radio West Wood One. Locally those are channel 35 for ESPN2 and on the radio WEBC the fan 560.

Well the football team accomplished a great task. The bulldogs men hockey team did well also. The went out to Colorado to take on the number six team in the country. On Friday night the two teams skated to a 1-1 tie. On Saturday night the bulldogs were a scoring matching. In the second period they scored 5 goals. They took the game 7-4, this giving them 3 or 4 points on the week.

What a great weekend to be a bulldogs fan.

Kicking game.

Well as many of you know the U.M.D. bulldogs upset the number 1 team in the country in division 2 football on Saturday.

The big improve they need to make however is on the kicking game. To see how bad there kicking is or was go to www.duluthnewsnow.blogspot.com. The bulldogs well struggled to say the least in there kicking game last Saturday. This will need to improve should they wish to continue in the playoffs.

Gophers lay egg.

After the Minnesota Golden Gophers went 7-1 in the first eight games the last two have not been so good. The gophers lay'ed an egg today against Michigan 29-6. Michigan not very good this year looked great.

This is the second straight week that the gophers have lay'ed an egg most likely taking them out of any serious bowl game.

YAWN!!!!!!!

The University of Minnesota Duluth football team goes undefeated. Who cares, there are in the NSIC. This is a very weak conference. The only team that they played that is any good is St. Cloud not in the conference.

To the playoffs they go. Most likely they will get the number 2 seed in the regine.

Lose of a child.

It is very sad when someone loses there child. You always thing your kids should bury you instead of the other way.

The lose of a child happened to a NFL kicker Mat Bryant ( Tampa Bay). He lost his 3 month old. Well there was little information in the fox storyhttp://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8617692?MSNHPHCP&gt1=39002. All signs point to sudden death syndrome (SIDS). An unexpected death do to a number of reasons.

Bryant kicked three filed goal to lead them passed the Green Bay packers. Yet Bryant's focus in the game was his 3 month old that passed away Tryson. He dedicated the game to his son.

I wish the Bryant family the best in this tiring time.

Jim Leland has no respect for the Twins.

As you know the Chicago white soxs and the Detroit Tigers played a make up came. The game was rained out earlier in the season.

Well the tigers finished in last place they still had to play this game. The tigers manger did an interview today in which he said they wanted to play and they were happy to do so. He said they owe it the MLB and it's fans. He also said in the interview for the twins (Minnesota).

I wonder if the Tigers lost on purpose? What do you think? remember the tigers one two of the final games of the season against the soxs.

Whte soxs Twins

The Chicago white soxs beat the Detroit Tigers today in a route 8-2. This means the Minnesota Twins and soxs are now tied with no games left. There for there will be a tie breaker game tomorrow night.

As you may remember the twins just sweeped the soxs in a six game home stand. That started with a three game set against the soxs. The last three games of the home stand however did not go as well as they wanted to. The Kansas City Royals won two or the three games.

The tie breaker game will be played in Chicago, this is because they won a coin toss earlier this season.

Northwoods league playoffs.

8:30 Starting pitcher Alex Rivers of the Madison Mallards is starting the 8th inning. No big deal right? Wrong Rivers has yet to allow at hit. A no hitter is not common. He has not yet completed it as of yet but well on his way. Mallards are still up 4-0

8:23 pm Well the boarder cats and the moon dogs played each other 8 times this season they split 4 wins a place. Right now Thunder Bay leads 1-0 in the 2nd inning.

To nights starts the playoffs for the north woods league in which the Duluth Huskies play in. The north division pits Thunder Bay and Mankato game one is in Mankato. They have just started as they had an hour long rain delay.

The south division pits the Madison Mallards against the Wis. Woodchucks. That game got off to a 7:05 start in Wisconsin. Madison leads 4-0 in the sixth inning. The Madison mallard starting pitcher has not allowed a hit so far.

Both of these series are the best of three. You can follow the action here as I am able to bring it to you. Updates will always be the first thing you see.

Huskies fall and help boarder cats.

The Duluth Huskies lost last night 7-2 to the Thunder Bay boarder cats, this clinching the second half for the them. It sets up the championship for the north division. It will we be between the Thunder Bay boarder cats and the Mankato moondogs.

Yet the regular season needs to end first. The final regular season game is tonight again the huskies will face the boarder cats in Thunder Bay. Hopefully our huskies can end on a high note.

Other notes for the huskies. Adam Stahl the field manger went home after the Alexandria games this leaving Chris Johns in charge of the team. Though Johns is 0-1 as field manger this far for the huskies I think he is better then Stahl. I hope the huskies make a change of field mangers in the off season.

Dream team sucks.

I am so sick of hearing about our basketball dream team. I hope they lose right away . They are of course suppose to run over the combination.

This from Yahoo sports:

The U.S. Olympic basketball team wrapped up its exhibition schedule with its toughest test, pulling away to beat Australia 87-76 Tuesday night in its final game before heading to Beijing.

Huskies last game at home tonight.

The Duluth Huskies will have there last game at home tonight. Tonight's games in fan appreciation night. There will be nine innings of winnings for the fans. The last home game of the season is always one of the most attend games.

The Huskies will take on the Thunder Bay boarder cats tonight at 7:05 and the gates open at 6:05. The cats won last night 7-5 all but eliminating the huskies hopes to make a run at first place in the second half. They would have had to won last night and tonight among a few other games and got a lot of help to do this. Now with last nights lost it is all but over for a second half win for our huskies but still tonight's game is a critical game. The Huskies have control of who could possible win the second half as they play the cats again tonight and Alexandria beetles two teams fighting for the second half championship.

At tonight's game you could win a number of prizes. A new T.V. gas money, tickets to Las Vegas and much more.

Brock Lessner and UFC

Could Brocks carreer end in only his second pay per view. Brock was a NCAA all star greek wrestler at the Universty of Minnesota. He then went to the world wrestling group. There he was heavly sought over by the UFC.

Now it seems like if he does not win the next main event at the pay per view he may be gone.

This is from Fox sports. Your thoughts welcome.

On Saturday night, Brock Lesnar goes into the cage with Heath Herring to answer a question: Is previous fame heading into a mixed martial arts career a blessing or a curse?
Lesnar, a former NCAA wrestling champion and World Wrestling Entertainment star, is one of the greatest athletic prospects to ever come into the sport. He has size, strength and, most of all, incredible quickness and reflexes for a man who had to cut weight to make the 265-pound heavyweight limit.
But as he heads into Saturday’s UFC 87 showdown against rugged veteran Heath Herring, he runs the risk that his headlining fame will be over just as quickly as it started.

“There’s always pressure to win in every circumstance,” said Lesnar. “Me, being very new, nobody wants to follow a loser. I don’t want to say my back is against the wall, but I put pressure on myself. There’s no added pressure in my mind, but I want to win the fight.”
Lesnar can’t afford a second straight loss on a major pay-per-view event and still be considered a long-term main eventer.
And with a hefty contract, Lesnar (1-1 overall; 0-1 UFC) is unlikely to be kept around unless he can be a major pay-per-view seller. It’s not a lock that if he loses he’ll be gone, but if he looks bad or is knocked out, it’s a distinct possibility. UFC last year cut Mirko Cro Cop, a similarly highly paid heavyweight, after two losses.

“I plan on being around for a while,” said Lesnar.
After signing a lucrative UFC deal, Lesnar’s first match, on Feb. 2, was against Frank Mir, a former UFC heavyweight champion, who is noted for being one of the best submission heavyweights in the sport. Lesnar looked like an unstoppable, but also undisciplined, force – for about 85 seconds. Lesnar exploded for takedowns that were more like violent linebacker hits. His quickness in moving on the ground was freakish for a man of his size, leaving Mir in immediate disbelief. Lesnar was battering the former champ on the ground, who kept thinking to himself to just keep moving so the match wouldn’t be stopped. Lesnar even knocked Mir down with a punch.

Five seconds later, it was over, and Mir’s arm raised in victory.
“I had a dominant position and I stood up and made an amateur mistake,” said Lesnar.
Lesnar got to his feet after escaping an armbar on the ground, leaving his leg behind, and Mir caught Lesnar in a kneebar, causing him to tap out. It was a spot Lesnar drilled regularly in practice before the fight, and even more after.
In response to the loss, Lesnar added Rodrigo “Comprido” Medeiros, a seven-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion, to his team of coaches.
“I worked a lot of stand-up this camp,” he said. “We worked on all aspects of wrestling, a lot of jiu-jitsu defense, a lot of leg kick defense. Heath has a strong right hand and is well-rounded with his kicks. We haven’t left any rock unturned for this fight.

“First and foremost, I didn’t like to lose,” Lesnar said. “Nobody likes to lose. I have to be a little more relaxed. I’m a little more relaxed and a little more polished. I’ve had a few more months to train. The Brock Lesnar now against the Brock Lesnar then, I’d beat him.”
The estimated 600,000 buys Lesnar’s match with Mir did on pay-per-view is bigger than any boxing or MMA match has done so far this year, and among the biggest in MMA history. Even more impressive, UFC sources indicated nearly half had never purchased a UFC event before.
Because UFC president Dana White saw the potential of bringing new fans to the sport, Lesnar walked into the company as one of its highest paid fighters, at a $250,000 base guarantee plus undisclosed bonuses.

But because of that same drawing power, and the cost, his early path is opposite to how UFC has treated similar heavyweight prospects Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez, or how Elite XC has booked Kimbo Slice.
The others have been given lower or mid-level opponents to start out with to build their reputation. UFC decided that with what they were paying Lesnar, there was going to be no such slow grooming process.

“I said from the beginning I didn’t want any easy fights, and Heath is not an easy opponent,” said Lesnar.
Things are a lot different in match No. 2. The company did an intense marketing campaign around his debut, pushing him as a former WWE champion, showing clips of his pro wrestling matches and using him as an outsider from pro wrestling coming into UFC to see what happens if a pro wrestler were to fight for real.

But for this fight, things are different. Lesnar is no longer a novelty act to either the media or the audience. He’s a name fighter, but one who has to prove himself. He hasn’t been marketed as hard as he was for the first show. He’s clearly the draw for the live show and expected to be the most popular fighter on the show, which heading into the week has sold 11,000 tickets for $2.2 million. That’s a 180-degree turn from the Las Vegas crowd, which booed him out of the arena, seeing him as a fake pro wrestler invading their sport. But on a national basis, the main event is clearly Georges St. Pierre’s welterweight title defense against Jon Fitch.
“I think experience is something that is much needed,” admitted Lesnar, now 31, facing a man who is actually a year younger than he is even though he’s almost a pioneer heavyweight in the sport.

Texan Herring has 41 pro fights over the past 11 years, in nearly every major organization. He became a star in Japan at the age of 22, and has been in the ring with a Who’s Who list of the greatest heavyweights of all-time.
“For me, I’ve been able to get a lot of experience in the training room,” said Lesnar.
Herring, a big star during PRIDE’s heyday in Japan when he was known as “The Texas Crazy Horse” for his unique multi-colored hair, noted he’s beaten men bigger than the 6-2 ½, 277-pound Lesnar, as well as higher credentialed wrestlers. He’s best known for a 2000 win over Tom Erikson, a 300-pounder with better amateur credentials than Lesnar, who had never lost up to that point. But Erikson was 36 and had never focused 100 percent on the sport the way Lesnar has. Herring also beat Mark Kerr, a former NCAA champion, in 2001 when beating Kerr, an early MMA star, still meant something. Against the top wrestlers, both opponents come out strong with takedowns. But in both cases, they started getting tired. In each case, Herring caught them with knees as they shot in, and quickly finished them.
But in Herring’s UFC debut on January 25, 2007, that never happened and Jake O’Brien outwrestled him for three rounds to earn a decision win. O’Brien, while a good college wrestler, isn’t nearly as big, as strong, or the level of wrestler as Lesnar.

Herring (28-13), is known for being difficult to finish; he went the distance twice with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in their three meetings, after being submitted the first time. But he was beaten by his most famous opponents in Japan, by Cro Cop from strikes on the ground, and by Fedor Emelianenko due to blood

Duluth Huskies live blog.

Live updates from Wade Stadium. The new reports will always be on top.

9:40 well it is now the top of the 9th inning. the huskies trail still 3-1. The had a chance in the 8th inning. The crowd was announced for tonight's game. It is a good one in fact the 2nd largest crowd ever for the huskies. 4,203 on hand for the game tonight.

If the huskies don't come back to tie or win the game this will be the last update for the night.

9:20 Well the 8th inning is about to start and the huskies in the 7th inning got there first hit sense the third inning. Not only that they got another hi and finally got on the board. They still trail however 3-1. The huskies are starting the new8th inning with a new pitcher the third of the game for the huskies.

9:10 Not much new to report still 3-0. There has been like 12 pop ups out in the infield. The is odd you normally don't see but 2 or 3 a night. Both teams have a lot of pop up in the infield tonight. Still no announcement on what the crowd is but I am guessing around 4,000 or so people here tonight.

8:50 Well the game has slowed down for some reason and the huskies now trail 3-0. More then likely the game is over, as the huskies have had troubles scoring runs this year. Not only that but they have had troubles against the pitcher. With that said the moon dogs have a new pitcher in why, I don't know. The huskies are not having any more success against him then there were against vine.

8:20 We have reached the top of the 5th inning here at the wade. Both teams are not doing well in the hitting department. Which means not many runs. The moon dogs still have the 2-0 lead because of walks. The moons dogs just got there third hit of the game. It is a lead off double leads hope that does not hurt them.

Well I was getting a hot dog they did the sweet hart of the night when a lucky lady gets a dozen roses.

8:00 Well the moon dogs took advantage of Walz control problems in the top of the third inning. They got 2 runs on just one hit however Walz walked four. The first two that walked came in to score on the only hit of the inning a double.

Luke Vine the moon dogs starting pitcher has faced the minuteman batters in the first two innings but just walked the first of his third inning. The huskies have there first two batter on base of the bottom of the third.

7:46 pm. The game is under way they are two innings in to the game and there is no score. As the third inning starts Duluth Huskies starting pitcher TJ Walz has walked the first to he faced this inning. Right now it seems to be pitching match up. Each team has just one hit however Walz has walked 4 and hit one. The Huskies have also had one error.

There is a big crowd tonight as it is SMDC breast cancer awareness and lady's night. More updates coming.

The Hsukies contunie to be near bottom of league.

The Duluth Huskies who feel flat on the butts the first half promised a much better second half. That has not happened to this point and they are quickly running out of time.

With just 16 games left they must go on a big winning streak and hope that they get help from the top teams. The Huskies are 7-10 for the second half 3.5 games back of first place. The huskies need to do more then just split series.

As a huge fan of the Huskies I wish them well and people do in fact need to head out to the Wade and watch them. win or lose it is great baseball.

I will have more later I think there is a reason for the huskies struggles and will explain that later. Tonight if you don't get a chance to go come back here for live updates on the game.

Duluth Huskies might as well back it in.

The Duluth Huskies are a mess right now. They have lost seven in a row and it looks like it will be 8 in a row as they are losing to battle creek 9-1 in the 6th inning.

The team is making error after error. In three games they had 5, 3, 2 errors respectively. This is not the Abe normal for them it is the normal this year. They have 33 errors on the season. They also can't hit nor can they pitch at this point. At one point they were leading in hitting and doing well in the batting as well. It has all gone down hill.

I don't know if they team is doing this on purpose or not. There has been talk of the team moving and I did not think it was true but with this season so far you never know.

Local racing having a rought go.

As many local race fans know it has been tough to get the races in. There has not been many green flags flying this season. This has to be tough on the races and race tracks.

Joey Bonnadonna

Joey Bonabonna leaves the Duluth Huskies high and dry. The Duluth Huskies longest returning player and fan favorite left the team after not being drafted in this years MLB draft.

Bonnadonna up and left the Huskies Thursday after not being selected by the Cleveland Indians baseball team as expected. In stead of being an adult about it he cried and left the Huskies baseball team. I understand being mad about not being drafted.

The thing you don't do however young man is leave a team that has allowed you to play ball for them for 3 + seasons. A team that has helped develop you into the player you are today. Especially with a wood bat as the north woods league is a wood bat league and that is what they would use if he was drafted.

Duluth Huskies first 10 games.

The Duluth huskies finest there first 10 games of the season last night. They played a double heard er against the Alexandria beetles. The two games were split.

The first game won by the beetles 2-1 in the 11th inning in a game that was suppose to just 7 inning. That is standard in double headers. The huskies that took advantage of a short bullpen for the beetles. The huskies won game two 13-1 they had a seven run 5th inning. Seeing the beetles use there third baseman as a pitcher.

The huskies finish there first ten games at 4-6 a couple games under .500. Field manger Adam Stahl said he would like to be around .500 after ten games. Well they are close I am sure he is a bit disappoint as the huskies have lost a lot of close games. Field has also been an issue for the huskies.
